On Thursday, May 13, 2010, members of the Ambassadors Committee participated in the Roseville Chamber of Commerce event "Roseville Expo 2010--25 Years of Progress." This Expo, held locally at an HP facility, celebrated 25 years of progress and accomplishments in Roseville. At this prestigious event, Sun City Roseville was honored as one of the top 25 organizations in Roseville.
Each year the Chamber sponsors an Expo, and our Ambassadors usually set up a booth and staff it with Committee members to promote our publicly available golf courses and dining facilities. The Committee also promotes the lifestyle benefits of living in SCR to potential new residents. This exciting event draws 700-800 civic and business leaders from Roseville. This year's speakers included an Olympic skier who won a silver medal in Vancouver, and the CEO of INC Magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year. The Mayor delivered a State of the City speech, and there were many workshops to help business leaders in these tough economic times.
The Expo this year surprised us with the aforementioned award. Rex Clark, former Board member (and husband of Jeanne Clark, current Board member) and Judy Bennett accepted the award on behalf of SCR. Here is some background on this award. Earl Wiklund, the SCR Executive Director, suggested to Judy Bennett, special consultant to SCR, that we apply for this award. Since Judy was part of the Del Webb organization when they were applying to the City of Roseville to develop our community, she had many of the original documents that were submitted in the application process. By combining what Del Webb said SCR would be in the early 1990's, along with the current accomplishments and contributions of our community, the Chamber selected SCR as one of the top 25 organizations in our city. The SCR contributions included many residents serving as city council members and various city committees, our participation in the city's 100 years celebration last year, and our outstanding spirit of volunteerism, which benefits the Chamber of Commerce, local schools, and non-profit organizations. In summary they felt SCR made a material impact on the progress of the City of Roseville during the past 25 years. This is an outstanding award and one that should make all residents of SCR proud.
The Ambassadors who staffed the booth and set up the arrangements for our participation included: Allene Grandy, sub-committee chair who organized the event for the Ambassadors, Betty Mann, Virginia Edlund, Dave Axthelm and Gary Myers. Pictures of the booth are enclosed.
